- Cusco, Peru
Itinerary
I love Cusco! It is such a great city and the shopping! I could shop until I drop or at least run out of money. I had the morning free and braved it. I went out by myself - I am really proud of this. I went shopping and did not have any trouble. The city is really safe as there is a lot of police around. I'm still cautious but had fun. Some of the street vendors are very hard to get rid of. They follow you around no matter how many times you say "No Gracious!" And once they ask your name, geesh don't give it out! They then follow you and scream out your name. I have a few "hawkers" that I need to avoid now. But it sure is fun! I've got to learn to bargain a little better. Today was a very nice day. This morning started out cloudy and a little windy but it got hotter. Was sweating by noon. Cusco is a truly beautiful city. In the afternoon I went on a tour of a few churches. They are amazing and huge but to tell you the truth I'm sick of churches and/or monasteries. I was with some Americans this afternoon and not one of them smoked - which was refreshing. We went to some archeological sites overlooking Cusco and they were incredible. I guess they are just the tip of the iceberg for Machu Picchu. I finally did a smart thing today. Since breakfast is included every day, I took a few buns and added cheese and ham to them and took them back to my room. I am going to do the same tomorrow. |
